The great people at the Baseball Tavern will be hosting our fundraiser again this year. Admission to this event is $20 and it includes a raffle ticket for a door prize and buffet. This year we will also have a live band! There will be additional raffle and silent auction prizes at the event.
This April, 2 educators and 15 students from the O’Bryant and 2 students from the Cambridge Rindge & Latin girls soccer team will be going to Jinotega, Nicaragua to teach Spanish literacy, English and lead after school to pre-school age children and elementary and middle school students. In addition, the team will be raising funds to help with the construction of a new community center under the leadership and guidance of 360 Outreach that in the near future will provide GED and English classes and serve as a large preschool and after school site.
Nicaragua is the 3rd poorest Latin American nation and it has suffered from history of brutal dictatorships, civil wars, and natural disasters. Jinotega is a coffee producing town of nearly 51,000 people, where according to the World Bank most of its people are small farmers, nearly half of the population lives under extreme poverty, nearly half of the population is illiterate and a significant number of children do not complete primary school and also suffer from malnutrition. The problems are numerous, but the O'Bryant Team Nicaragua 2012 is focusing on the power of hope, solidarity and education and it needs your help and generosity to make this possible.
If you can’t come, but would like to donate, you can send a check to the “John D. O’Bryant School of Math & Science” (tax deductible) or donate via the PayPal link on the page.
